Fairphone has introduced the Fairphone (Gen. 6+), a focused update to its repair-oriented Android phone. The company’s product page shows a faster chipset and more memory, while TechCrunch reports that the model is also coming directly to the United States from $649.

That U.S. route is the more consequential change. Fairphone’s earlier official support guidance pointed American buyers to a Murena edition running /e/OS, with separate warranty terms. The new report describes the Gen. 6+ as the first Fairphone sold in the country with the manufacturer’s standard, unmodified Android setup.

The “plus” is a narrow performance refresh

Fairphone’s official comparison makes the scope unusually clear. The Gen. 6+ moves from Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 to the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 and increases memory from 8GB to 12GB. Storage remains 256GB of UFS 3.1, with microSD expansion up to 2TB.

Fairphone says the processor, memory, colours and price are the only changes from the Gen. 6. The European list price rises from €599 to €649. There are no published benchmarks in the inspected material, so the new chip should not be treated as proof of a particular speed, battery-life or gaming improvement.

The rest of the hardware is familiar: a 6.31-inch LTPO AMOLED display with a refresh rate up to 120Hz, a removable 4,415mAh battery and charging up to 30W. The camera system combines a 50-megapixel main camera, a 13-megapixel ultrawide and a 32-megapixel front camera.

Repairability remains the main product distinction

The official product page lists 12 user-replaceable parts. Fairphone says the USB-C port, battery, display and back cover can each be swapped in under five minutes, and it promises spare-part availability through 2033.

Those commitments matter more than the “plus” label. A phone is only meaningfully repairable if replacement parts remain obtainable and routine repairs do not require specialised equipment. Fairphone’s design aims at both conditions, although the time estimates are manufacturer claims rather than results from an independent repair test. The inspected sources also do not establish that every repair is equally simple.

The company promises six major Android updates through 2032 and software support until 2033. Android 16 is installed at launch. Its product page advertises a five-year warranty, but U.S. buyers should confirm the exact regional terms at checkout because Fairphone’s previous Murena arrangement used different warranty conditions.

Those calendar dates provide a clearer support horizon than a vague longevity claim, but they remain forward-looking commitments. They do not by themselves establish update cadence or future parts inventory. Technical teams considering the phone for longer deployments should separate the promised support window from delivery that can only be assessed over time.

The trade-offs are still visible

This is not a conventional flagship-specification pitch. The Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 is midrange silicon, and the phone retains USB 2.0 data transfer, IP55 ingress protection and no support for millimetre-wave 5G. Buyers prioritising the fastest wired transfers, stronger water protection or every U.S. 5G layer will need to weigh those limits against the removable battery and modular parts.

Fairphone publishes extensive 4G and 5G band support, including several bands used in the United States. That does not establish universal compatibility. Carrier activation, local coverage, calling features and plan support can differ even when radio bands overlap.

TechCrunch reports that the initial U.S. support covers T-Mobile and AT&T. The report does not establish compatibility with every network or mobile virtual network operator, so prospective buyers should verify their exact carrier and location before ordering.

A more ordinary U.S. route changes the proposition

Fairphone’s Gen. 6+ is not a ground-up redesign. Its hardware update is deliberately limited to the processor, memory, colours and price. The more notable development is the reported ability for U.S. buyers to obtain the repairable phone with a conventional Android setup instead of the earlier /e/OS-only route.

That makes the trade-off easier to evaluate on its own terms. The Gen. 6+ offers replaceable parts, a removable battery and long promised support, but it also carries clear connectivity, protection and performance-tier limits. Its appeal depends less on winning a specification contest than on whether buyers value a phone designed to remain serviceable for years. For U.S. buyers, that choice is now reportedly easier to make.
