Google plans to change model availability in Gemini Apps for personal accounts in October 2026, according to its Gemini Apps Help notice. The change starts to take effect for users without a Google AI subscription on October 9. AI Plus subscribers should receive an email stating when it will apply to them; Google does not give that tier a single effective date in the notice.
Which models each plan will offer
After the change takes effect for an account, users without a plan will have Flash-Lite. AI Plus subscribers will have Flash-Lite and Flash. AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers will have all three listed models: Flash-Lite, Flash and Pro.
That distinction matters when an app workflow or a set of instructions depends on selecting a particular model. Guidance for personal-account users should identify the relevant plan and be checked against the available model choices when the change reaches that account. Google's notice concerns Gemini Apps on personal accounts; it does not describe Gemini API or organization-account entitlements.
Model choice and usage limits are different questions
Google says each available model offers low, medium and high effort settings. Higher effort can use more of an account's limit. AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers will also have a Deep Think option. The October notice does not provide a numerical allowance for each model and effort setting.
The same Help page describes an earlier, separate change to compute-based Gemini Apps usage limits that began on May 17, 2026. That limit policy does not set the October model-access date. Users without a plan should watch for the change from October 9; AI Plus subscribers should use the effective date in the email Google says it will send.
