Google Photos is widening access to its AI wardrobe feature, but the availability announcement needs to be read alongside the product’s eligibility rules. For readers in India, the practical issue is whether their account has access and meets the requirements.
In its 24 September 2026 update, Google says Wardrobe is available to eligible Android and iOS users in India, Brazil and the US. The same announcement keeps other Photos features on different tracks: Moods is available on Android globally, while upgraded markup tools are rolling out on Android. Photos in Gemini Spark is limited to eligible Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the US.
Eligibility is narrower than country availability
Google’s Wardrobe help page lists several requirements: an eligible account that meets the regional minimum age, Face Groups enabled, and the user’s own face selected. People without Google AI Pro or Ultra need more than 1,000 photos of themselves. Android users need Android 10 or later.
The help page also describes access rolling out to AI Pro and Ultra subscribers and other selected users over the coming months, with an in-app notification when available. That wording differs from the newer announcement’s “all eligible” description. The documents do not establish that every qualifying account already has access.
The collection starts with clothing in your photos
Google’s original April announcement explains the feature’s design: AI identifies clothing shown in a photo library and builds a wardrobe collection. Users can filter items by category, combine pieces into outfits and preview looks virtually. The September update changes the access picture; it is not the original feature launch.
The help page says building a wardrobe scans photos of the user from the previous four years, then sends a notification when the collection is ready. Saved outfits and try-on outputs count towards storage. These are documented product behaviours, not results from a GeethanTech hands-on test.
